This stunning location is perfect for those who want an adventure. The name says it all- it is a large rock formation that looks like a merry-go-round and looks out over all of Sedona. From the top, you can see many of the most popular formations in the distance, including Cathedral Rock, and can even spot the town itself. This location is off the beaten path, making it a perfect spot to avoid crowds. If you are up for a hike, it is about 7 miles round trip with plenty of spots to stop and take pictures along the way. Depending on the time of year and rainfall, there may be some beautiful reflective pools among the red rocks. Keep an eye out for Sedona’s unique native plants, like manzanitas, claret cup cactus, and Parry’s agave.
If you aren’t a hiker but still want to enjoy the views, there are many options for Jeep and 4×4 rentals in Sedona that will get you up to the top and provide a fun experience. The panoramic views from this location are breathtaking, and it’s the perfect spot to capture some truly unique photos with your partner. Sunrise, golden hour, and sunset are the best times to take photos here because the rocks glow with beautiful orange and purple hues!
This location is ideal for those who aren’t looking for a hike, but still want amazing views of the Sedona red rocks. It’s situated right next to Oak Creek, and Cathedral Rock in the distance makes for an incredible backdrop. The reflections in the water create stunning, dreamy shots. The ranch is full of lush greenery and flat rocks with creek access, making it a lovely place to spend the day and have a picnic. It’s a pretty easy spot to get to, with plenty of parking available. There is a $12 per car fee to get into the ranch (2023), so plan to have cash or card available when you enter the gates. If you are looking to avoid the crowds, there is a large scenic pullout on the way to the ranch (left side of the road) that offers incredible views and plenty of room to have a private photoshoot.
This iconic spot is one of the most photographed places in Sedona, and for good reason. Cathedral Rock is a spectacular rock formation that rises above the surrounding landscape, creating a dramatic and picturesque view. This location is a bit of a hike to get to- it is a 1.2 mile out-and-back trail that isn’t very long but is quite steep. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes with good traction for climbing the rocks.
For an adventurous and scenic experience, hike the Cathedral Rock Trail to the top, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the valley and surrounding red rocks. It is a popular trail, so be prepared to wait in line if you want pictures on the ledge. Alternatively, there are plenty of spots to snap a picture from the bottom of the trail with the rocks in the background. Either way, this location is perfect for those looking for a memorable and unique desert experience. Sunrise and sunset are the best times to shoot at this location, as the light adds an ethereal quality to your photos.
